Why we’re starting the Power & Justice Report
Movements need their own press. This is ours, and it belongs to the people doing the work.
Most news about organizing is written from the outside. It shows up when there is a march big enough to block traffic and leaves before anyone explains what the march was for, who built it, or what happened the week after.
The Power & Justice Report is an attempt to cover that work from the inside. It is published by Justice & Power Collective, a membership coalition that funds grassroots action and pushes for progressive policy change. We are starting it because the people in our coalition keep doing things worth reporting, and too little of it gets written down.
What you’ll find here
Original reporting and analysis. Campaign updates, policy explainers, and stories from JPC and its member organizations, with a focus on immigration, democracy, and economic justice.
The Wire. A running list of the best reporting we’re reading from independent and movement outlets. We link straight to the source. Good journalism deserves the click.
Where we stand
We are not neutral, and we won’t pretend to be. We believe power belongs to the people, and we cover the news from that position.
Having a point of view is not the same as being loose with facts. We link to our sources. We say so when JPC has a stake in a story. When we get something wrong, we correct it and note the correction on the page.
This is yours, too
If your organization is a JPC member, this is your outlet. Tell us what you’re working on, what you’ve won, and what you’re up against. If you’re a reader with a tip or a story we should be covering, get in touch.
There is no paywall here and there won’t be one. If you want to keep it that way, chip in or become a member.
