What this means Federal law bars intimidating anyone out of voting, and these lawsuits are asking courts to enforce that before Election Day. Talk of agents at polling sites can keep people home on its own, especially in immigrant communities and communities of color. A neighborhood that knows its rights is harder to scare.
What you can do about it Save the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline, 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683), and call it if you see or face intimidation at the polls. If crowds or officers at the polls worry you, look into early voting or voting by mail in your state. Tell three people you know that voter intimidation is illegal and that help is one phone call away.
