What this means Unless a court steps in, registering to vote in Florida will require proof of citizenship starting January 1, using documents such as a birth certificate or passport. Eligible citizens who don’t have those papers within reach, including many naturalized citizens, could be kept off the rolls. The lawsuit may take time, and the law takes effect either way until a judge says otherwise.
What you can do about it Register or update your Florida registration before the new rule starts. To vote in the November 3 election you must be registered by October 5.Find your birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers now, and help older relatives find theirs.
